3 Deep Breaths

Modern research and ancient practices both point to something simple: the breath has the power to shift your state.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, distracted, stressed, or stuck, pause and take three deep breaths.

There is no perfect technique.

No special posture.

No wrong way to do it.

Just breathe.

Notice the inhale.

Notice the exhale.

Notice whatever you notice.

Allow yourself a moment to slow down.

Three breaths won't solve every problem, but they often create enough space to see the next step more clearly, or create a crack in the current tension.

Like any skill, it becomes more powerful with practice.

Three breaths before beginning the next task.

Three breaths before sending the email.

Three breaths when the mind starts racing.

Three breaths when you need to begin again.

Simple things, repeated often, have a way of changing the course of a day.
