When the Goalpost of Success Keeps Moving…
The promise is seductive:
When I get there, I'll finally be okay, safe, worthy, good enough, or deserve to rest or stop.
But "there" has a habit of moving.
The new achievement becomes normal. The next challenge appears. What once felt like success now feels like something that should be improved, expanded, or done better.
The goalpost quietly moves again.
Growth is natural. Learning is natural. Change is natural.
What becomes exhausting is believing that life can finally begin once there is nothing left to fix.
The truth is that there will always be another lesson to learn, another goal to reach, another problem to solve, another possibility to explore. Something to improve.
Life naturally unfolds in sections.
There is no final moment when everything is complete and certainty arrives.
At some point, wisdom may involve recognizing that the goalpost itself is elusive.
Because the mind can always imagine one more improvement before allowing itself to rest, there must be some place to say this is “good enough” for now.
The idea of things being "good enough" is not resignation.
It is the ability to recognize a life that is already meaningful while it continues to unfold.
The garden does not have to be finished to be beautiful.
The same is true for a life.
Growth can continue.
Dreams can continue.
Learning can continue.
But maybe contentment does not have to wait until the next summit, and where you are is good enough to take a breath and enjoy the view for a moment.
ENJOYING THE VIEW DOES NOT ALWAYS NEED TO BE EARNED
